“Living with the Trees”“The call was for a residential complex with 40 rental and owner-occupied apartments, sensitively integrated on the urban edge of a small park with old trees, which offer a high standard of living quality.” “The outdoor space flows between the two four-story building volumes in a court-like, communicative situation, which is framed by the covered verandas of the inhabitants.” The dynamic access and movement paths of the overall ensemble continue within, where smart and flexible floor plans offer many possibilities. All living spaces are oriented in three directions, which provides wonderful views. Despite their relatively compact surface areas, the apartments feel spacious, due to the clustering of the living, dining, and kitchen spaces and the reduction of hallways. The desired mix of apartment types is achieved through three “switch rooms” per floor, which can be allocated to one or the other unit, and the possibility to combine complete units.“Two building volumes are embedded harmoniously in the park landscape. The design principle is three identical modules, staggered, turned, and overlapped to form a heterogeneous and open ensemble instead of a massive block.”P R O J E C T D E T A I L S
